Apple market value hits $500 billion, where few have gone and when will be come, who knows

Apple’s market capitalization topped $500 billion Wednesday, cheap abercrombie kids climbing to a mountain peak where few companies have ventured and none have stayed for long.By Justin Sullivan, Getty Images fileOutside an Apple store in San Francisco.By Justin Sullivan, Getty Images fileOutside an Apple store in San Francisco.Apple was already the world’s most valuable company. The gap between it and No. 2 has widened rapidly in the past month, as investors have digested Apple’s report of blow-out holiday-season sales of iPhones and iPads. And, more recently, Apple () has raised investors’ hopes that it might institute a dividend. The company’s market capitalization was near $506 billion in late-morning trading as the shares rose $7, or 1.3%, to $542.41. The stock ended the day three cents higher than that.On Tuesday, the Cupertino, Calif., company sent out invites to reporters for an event in next Wednesday, apparently to reveal its next iPad model. The launch of the new model was expected around this time, a year after the launch of the iPad 2.Apple is in rare company. It is the sixth corporation to reach the $500 billion milestone, and the only one to be worth that much at current prices.Exxon, now worth $411 billion, was worth just over $500 billion for two short stretches at the end of 2007.Apple’s arch-nemesis Microsoft was worth just more than $500 billion briefly at the end of 1999, and again in early 2000. It even shot up above $600 billion for one day. The company is now worth $267 billion., Intel and also peaked just above $500 billion in early 2000. Cisco and Intel are now worth a bit more than $100 billion each, while GE is worth $200 billion.Exxon’s ascent to the $500 billion level was propelled by record oil prices. Cisco, Intel, Microsoft and GE were boosted by the general stock mania of 1999 and 2000, and the hunger for technology stocks in particular.Apple’s rise, by contrast, is powered by its mammoth sales and profits, which are growing at rates unheard of for a company its size. And despite its sky-high market capitalization, Apple’s shares aren’t expensive compared to its earnings. It’s worth 15 times its earnings for the last year. That compares to 21 times earnings for Google and 14 times for the S P 500 overall. Yet few companies in the index grow their earnings as fast as Apple does: In its latest quarter, its earnings rose 118% from a year ago, to $13.06 billion.Analysts expect the Apple rally to have some legs. The 35 analysts who have reported to FactSet since Apple’s latest earnings report have set an average price target of $592 per share, or 8 percent higher than Wednesday’s level. That implies a market capitalization of $552 billion.Apple has been helped by a general recovery in the stock market after the doldrums of the financial crisis and the recession. The S P 500 index has posted its best February performance in 14 years, and on Tuesday, the Dow Jones industrial average closed above 13,000 for the first time since May 2008.Apple’s stock accounts for 3.8 of the value of the S P 500, according to Standard Poor’s, click here and it made up 6 percent of the operating income of the 500 companies in the fourth quarter.Analysts say Apple’s sheer size works against its stock price. Apple stock already makes up a large share of the holdings of technology and growth-focused funds, and they have little appetite for more. Meanwhile, value-focused funds are often prevented from buying the shares because the company doesn’t pay a dividend. However, the company has been signaling that a dividend is under consideration, and several analysts now consider it a given that one will be announced this year. Last week, CEO Tim Cook told shareholders at the annual meeting that the company has more money than it needs, and the board and management are thinking “very deeply” about ways to use the cash.Former CEO Steve Jobs, apparently haunted by the company’s lean years in the 90s, had a policy of accumulating cash. The company now sits on $97.6 billion.China’s largest oil company, PetroChina, was briefly worth $1 trillion after it listed on the Shanghai stock exchange in 2007, but only based on its price on that exchange. Its shares also trade in and on the . Based on trading there, its market capitalization has never reached $500 billion.Copyright 2012 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. All areas of the U.S. show growth, manufacturing.

The economy started the year off well with busier factories, cheap abercrombie bracelets higher retail sales, more jobs and growth in home sales. The Federal Reserve said Wednesday that all 12 of its banking districts reported some level of growth in January and the first half of February.Manufacturing output rose in all districts. Auto manufacturing, steel makers and other metal producers all reported solid growth.STORY: Home sales increased in at least half of the districts, a notable improvement from the Fed’s last report in January. Sales are expected to climb further in four districts. And six districts reported rising construction of apartments. Some manufacturers did report concerns about Europe’s financial crisis, the Fed said in its report, known as the .The Beige Book is released eight times a year. The findings from each of the Fed’s regional bank districts are all anecdotal; there are no numbers. The report comes amid other signs that the economy is picking up. Employers have added an average of 200,000 net jobs per month in November, December and January. That has pushed the unemployment rate down for five straight months, to 8.3% in January. Most economists are predicting another big month of job growth in February, based on a steady decline in applications for unemployment benefits and more optimism in business surveys.More jobs have boosted Americans’ incomes and their ability to spend, a key driver of economic growth. Incomes increased in the second half of last year by much more than previously estimated, the said Wednesday.Factory production jumped last month and December was their strongest month of growth in five years, the Fed said earlier this month in a separate report. Consumer confidence rose to its highest point in a year in February, as measured by the .Even the depressed housing market is flashing signs of a modest rebound.Homebuilders are increasingly optimistic after seeing more people express interest in buying a home. Wade offered apology to Kobe for hard All-Star Game foul

Wade offered apology to Kobe for hard All-Star Game foul about the game

Wade offered apology to Kobe for hard All-Star Game foul spotlight– Insisting he meant no harm, coach xmas promotion Dwyane Wade revealed Tuesday that he has apologized to Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant multiple times for a blood-drawing, nose-breaking foul during the All-Star game.Your browser does not support iframes. The first of those apologies, Wade said, came during the game when he saw Bryant’s face had been bloodied. Wade also said he sent the Lakers’ star a message after the game in Orlando, Fla. on Sunday night.Wade said critics who questioned why he never offered an apology for the play – the likes of which seemed to be something not typical in an All-Star game setting – simply made incorrect assumptions. I don’t care what I’m portrayed as, Wade said after Miami’s first practice following the league’s All-Star break. It’s unfortunate, obviously. I don’t want to ever hurt anybody in this game, especially on a freak play like that. It’s unfortunate. I send my apologies. But it’s not intentional. If it’s something I did intentionally, it’d be a different story. A week ago, the Heat could make jokes about how they were out of the NBA spotlight, bumped by the meteoric rise of Jeremy Lin in New York. Now it’s a different story. Two plays seem to be generating the most attention from the All-Star game – Wade’s hard foul against Bryant and LeBron James’ ill-advised pass at the end of what became a three-point loss for the Eastern Conference. It’s an All-Star game. I mean, come on, said Heat coach Erik Spoelstra, who couldn’t answer a question about what he thought of James’ play in the final seconds because he said he didn’t watch the game or see any replays of it since. It’s a continuation of the theater of the absurd. I don’t even know if it’s going to motivate me to actually even look at it. I haven’t seen it. There’s nothing we can do about it, about the extreme exaggeration about everything that happens with our team, Spoelstra continued. All we can focus on is us. And at the end of the season, hopefully it ends the right way, and that’ll ultimately be the only way we can shut people up. The Heat enter the second half of the season tied with Oklahoma City for the league’s best record at 27-7. Miami starts a three-game road trip Thursday night in Portland, followed by a game at Utah – and then, in a nationally televised game that probably got a whole lot more interesting, at the Lakers on Sunday afternoon.Your browser does not support iframes.Bryant stayed in after the Wade hit, and the Lakers said Tuesday that he also got a concussion in the All-Star Game. Bryant is listed as day-to-day by the Lakers, who play host to Minnesota on Wednesday night. D-Wade didn’t, at all, go for a hard foul, James said. He went to wrap his arms up and accidentally hit him in the nose. … He meant to foul him but he didn’t mean to hard-foul him like that. Wade acknowledged that he did try to foul Bryant, and said he did so to stop the clock so he could approach a nearby referee to complain about fouls that he felt were committed against him and went uncalled. So not long after a Pro Bowl that was deemed by NFL fans and even Commissioner Roger Goodell as lacking any real sense of competition, the NBA’s version of a star-studded exhibition got too fiery down the stretch by some standards. Hey, what do you want? Heat forward Chris Bosh said. It was all about the game. It came down to the last possession. It was all for the fans. That’s what they want. You get competitors out there, it may go a certain particular way for a limited amount a time, but after a while guys, they’re really going to get after it. And those make the best games. That’s what people want to see. At the end, James found himself in the spotlight. The East trailed by two points when James got the ball with about five seconds left near midcourt. Guarded by Bryant, James dribbled right, then tried slinging a one-handed diagonal pass back to his left. The pass was stolen by Blake Griffin, who made one free throw to close the scoring in the West’s 152-149 win.It was reported Sunday that Bryant told James to shoot the ball in that situation, and James said afterwards he let his team down. But it didn’t end there. That play has been questioned since. Is that something new? James asked, rhetorically on Tuesday.Wade apparently was ready to put the All-Star game behind him and said he was done discussing the issue after Tuesday. However, it’s almost certain to come up again when the Heat head out to face Bryant and the Lakers over the weekend. When I saw the blood in his nose, I was like, `Obviously, I wasn’t trying to do that, man, ‘ Wade said. I don’t know if anybody wants me to get down on my knees in front of the world and do it. I don’t have to do that.I send my apologies to Kobe and I move on from it.lacoste bags in singapore

Sacramento, NBA close to arena financing deal here have a look

Sacramento, jimmy choo boots on sale us NBA close to arena financing deal.Sacramento’s last shot to remain an NBA city appears headed for another overtime.NBA Commissioner David Stern and Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson announced a joint work plan Wednesday for the two sides to reach an agreement to finance a new arena by the March 1 deadline. Johnson, Stern and the Maloof family, which owns the Sacramento Kings, will meet during this weekend’s All-Star festivities in Orlando, Fla.If the final details are resolved in time, a term sheet will be announced March 1 and the Sacramento City Council will vote on the plan at its March 6 meeting, possibly avoiding the relocation talk that surrounded the team last spring when it almost moved to Anaheim. I feel very confident that we as a city are going to be able to do our part, Johnson said at a late afternoon news conference at City Hall with six council members standing behind him. The city controls its own destiny. The major sticking point in negotiations remains how much the Kings will contribute.Under the proposed agreement, the city of Sacramento will raise about $190-$230 million by leasing out parking garages to private investors, a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press. The person, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to disclose the information, said another $75-$100 million is expected from the Kings and $40-$60 million from arena operator AEG.The remaining gap will be covered by some combination of a ticket surcharge, advertising around the arena, allocating a portion of the city’s existing transient occupancy tax or a sale of three or four parcels of city land. The final price tag for AEG depends largely on the team’s contribution. The Kings’ portion would include upfront cash – the city had initially asked for $60 million – and donating back the land around the franchise’s current suburban Sacramento arena, estimated at about $25 million. AEG’s contribution will be impacted by the splits with the team in arena-related revenue.Johnson and Stern still have some disagreement on how much, if any, of AEG’s portion is included in the Kings’ contribution. Major points for the city also include making sure rates don’t soar if the garages and street parking are sold to private investors, and getting Sacramento County’s agreement to use a parking garage near the arena site. The two sides are making progress and hope to bridge the gap to finance the estimated $406 million arena, which would open for the 2015-16 season in the downtown Sacramento rail yards. The Kings nearly moved south to Anaheim last year, twice extending the relocation deadline and struggling to gain approval from league owners.Johnson made a desperate pitch to the NBA Board of Governors last April to give the city a final chance to come up with an arena plan. He also bought time by presenting more than $10 million in commitments for new advertising, ticket purchases and other financial support from regional businesses for this season.Despite attempts by Anaheim and Seattle to swoop in and lure the Kings, Stern said the league is making every attempt to keep the franchise in California’s capital. We appreciate the work of the City of Sacramento and (our) discussions have been constructive, Stern said in a statement. Our hope is that current momentum continues in a way that we’re able to reach a deal by March 1 that makes sense for all parties. Johnson described the discussions as having great momentum, but disagreed with Stern on a key point: the portion of the arena cost that should be counted as coming from the Maloofs. Stern said in a TNT interview Tuesday that contributions from arena operator AEG should be included as part of the Maloofs’ share, but Johnson was adamant that the city hired AEG and the Maloofs’ contribution should be considered separately. This is where a feisty point guard and the commissioner get into a little bit of a spirited discussion, said Johnson, a former All-Star with the Phoenix Suns. He said he last talked to Stern after the city council meeting Tuesday night.Word of the extended arena talks also reached the Kings before the team’s game at the Washington Wizards on Wednesday night. It’s good for the team and the city, the positive news of today, Kings coach Keith Smart said. But for the basketball players, their focus is on the game. Kings owners Joe and Gavin Maloof haven’t been involved in negotiations. The league is bargaining with Sacramento officials on the franchise’s behalf and will present the final proposal to the team.Joel Litvin, president of league operations, and Harvey Benjamin, executive counsel for business and finance, are the NBA’s lead negotiators. Stern also has been receiving updates. The NBA could force the Maloofs into bringing in investment partners or – as a last resort – even sell the team if the owners walk away from a plan that has the league’s approval.Southern California billionaire Ron Burkle remains interested in buying the Kings. And Christopher Hansen, a hedge-fund manager based in San Francisco and a Seattle native, is also making proposals to bring an NBA team to Seattle – with eyes on the Kings if Sacramento’s latest plan collapses. The Maloofs insist they’re not selling the team. A Kings spokesman said the team is refraining from comment until the NBA and the city complete a proposed plan.At the very least, the latest development shows progress. A year ago, Sacramento needed to sink a full court shot to keep the Kings from relocating to Anaheim, Johnson said. Now I think we’re on the free throw line, he said. Shaquille O’Neal is not shooting the free throws for us. We could go with Steve Nash. Asked about his own shooting percentage, Johnson joked, I could sink two if I had to.jimmy choo booties shoes on sale us

Soda Bottle Planters Go Mainstream with the Stylish CapsulePot

The CapsulePot by Greenamic may look like a horse pill, jimmy choo outlet shoes but it is actually a seed starter and “self-watering” planter. The adorable biodome turned planter is attractively designed and looks like something you would find on the shelf at IKEA. It takes soda bottle planters into the mainstream and probably to a garden center’s shelf near you in the very near future.
Back in 2007 I blogged about how I was making seed starting biodomes out of empty soda bottles. coach xmas promotionThe idea came from school gardening projects growing up where we made seed starters in classrooms out of recyclable materials like soda bottles, yogurt cups, and plastic milk jugs.
It is one of my most popular posts and contributions to garden blogging because the idea is so simple and easily adapted. There are many iterations floating around the web today of the seed starter and planter from soda bottles.
See how easy it is to make a “self-watering” planter and seed starter from an empty soda bottle that would just end up in the landfill?
Honestly, even though you could make something very similar to the CapsulePot for practically free, I still want one.
However, the 6.95 ($11.00 U.S) price tag on The Balcony Gardener online store is acting as the usual deterrent for this frugal gardener. What’s that? I have to pay shipping and handling too? Never mind, I’ll just continue pulling soda bottles from the neighbor’s trashcans and using them to start my seeds for spring. Thanks to Inside Urban Green for the tip.jimmy choo shoes sale

How to Grow Air Plants (Tillandsia), a New Indoor Gardening

How to Grow Air Plants (Tillandsia), a New Indoor Gardening Trend

The first time I saw a Tillandsia planter on Etsy, fake rolex watchsI thought “oh, that’s cute.” Not being a houseplant person (because I have this bad habit of killing them) I didn’t think much of it.
The second time I saw a Tillandsia planter, on Design*Sponge, I thought, “Cute, but I’d kill it, and then I’d feel bad.”
And the third time I saw a Tillandsia planter (this time in necklace form on Etsy) I decided that I HAVE to have one.
I don’t have my Tillandsia yet because I’m still in the research/see-if-I-can-talk-myself-out-of-yet-another-plant phase. But in my research I’ve come across a lot of useful information about growing these plants.cheap womens short tees And since they seem to be a good option for those of us with limited space, I thought I’d share some of the great Tillandsia-related stuff I’ve seen online.
How to Grow Tillandsia
Tillandsia, also known as “air plant,” is an epiphyte. This means that it doesn’t need soil, but, instead, obtains water and nutrients from the air. You grow Tillandsia not by planting it in a pot, but by mounting it to a board, tile, or other object, or by growing it in a special Tillandsia planter, which is usually just a glass hanging globe with holes in it to increase air flow.
Tillandsia needs bright, indirect light. According to About.com Houseplants expert Jon VanZile, a sunny south, east, or west-facing window would work well. If you don’t have a bright window, you can also grow Tillandsia under a grow light.
To water Tillandsia, mist it two to three times per week, or, if you don’t have your air plant mounted to something (but have it set in a pot or planter instead) simply take the entire plant and submerge it in water for a bit (more on this in the video below). Once a month, mist the plant with diluted organic fertilizer.
Project: Make Your Own Tiny Tillandsia Planters
I came across this project on Rue LaLa about making your own tiny Tillandsia planters from wine corks. A wine cork, a knife, a magnet, and a tiny air plant and you’ve got probably the cutest refrigerator magnet imaginable:
So, if you (like me) have been considering getting a Tillandsia or ten (I can see this becoming a bit of an addiction) of your own, I hope this information has been helpful. I think this is one houseplant even I can keep alive and happy!cheap lacoste polo outlet

The True Politics of Climate Change: A Video Interview with

The True Politics of Climate Change: A Video Interview with Jon Krosnick

audemarspiguetreplica John Krosnick is a Stanford social psychologist whose work has explored public opinion about energy and climate change. A series of surveys he conducted for the Woods Institute for the Environment last year yielded some surprising results: Most notably, that publicly advocating for solutions to climate change actually improves political candidates chances of winning an election. I recently sat down with Krosnick, and he discussed his work in greater detail.
Krosnick was one of the myriad speakers at this year’s Climate, Mind, and Behavior conference, an annual gathering of scientists, psychologists, behavioral economists, authors, and policy experts in Garrison, New York. His talk touched on the findings of his recent work, and pondered the divide between public opinion regarding global warming he pointed out that strong majorities in every single state believe that it’s real and the opinion held by our political leaders.
Most conservative politicians won’t publicly discuss climate change much, unless its to suggest that it’s a hoax or “unsettled” science. But that’s partly because they’re severely misreading their constituent’s views on climate change, which are in reality much more pro-action than they believe. And this, Krosnick says, is largely because they might only hear from the most vocal, opinionated voters, such as those who attend town hall meetings or angrily call them up and if we’re talking about a red state or county, chances are they’re not calling for a carbon tax. Opinions spouted on Fox News and the various anti-climate incentives provided by the fossil fuel industry help bridge the rest of the gap.
This simple disconnect is something that should be kept in mind when considering the politics of climate change and a sign that a few simple phone calls and statements from town hall attendees could help shift the debate back towards reality.howmuchwithrolexwatches

Loot confiscated by TSA turns into revenue for states try

Loot confiscated by TSA turns into revenue for states try to have a look

cheaprolexwatchessale From samurai swords to hatchets to snow globes, the Transportation Security Administration collects tons of unusual objects each year that passengers try to carry on planes.
The objects are what the TSA deems weapons or other threats to flight security. They’re surrendered at checkpoints by forgetful or harried passengers who would rather give them up than miss a flight or return to the check-in counter and pay extra to put them in a checked bag.
Among the most common: Swiss Army knives or similarly sharp multiuse pocket tools, though the gamut runs to swords or even fuzzy handcuffs that are more for bedroom use than by law enforcement.
And despite cynical suggestions from angry travelers that security officers keep the items for themselves, the TSA turns over the property to state agencies and commercial vendors, which cart it away to sell. Although public auctions yield a fraction of retail prices, dozens of states have found some revenue in the contraband.
“It’s kind of amazing what people will try to take on board,” says Troy Thompson, spokesman for Pennsylvania’s Department of General Services, which takes some of the contraband. “To them (passengers), it’s an item that’s not threatening, but in these days and times it is threatening.”
Pennsylvania collects truckloads of items from airports, including New York City’s JFK, LaGuardia and Newark. The state has raised $700,000 from selling them since 2004, Thompson says.
The most sought-after items by buyers are among the most often left behind: pocket knives, scissors and corkscrews, which are typically sold in boxes of 100. But occasionally machetes, samurai swords and even an African spear are trucked to the state warehouse in Harrisburg, he says.
Passenger shakedown
About 30 states have collected TSA relinquished property since the agency was created to provide stricter baggage screening following the terrorist attacks 9/11, according to Scott Pepperman, executive director of the National Association of State Agencies for Surplus Property.
Because the TSA had trouble coping with the accumulation, with 10 tons of contraband piling up at Los Angeles International Airport alone, Pepperman helped negotiate an agreement a decade ago with the federal government for states to take possession of the surrendered items. .
“It was of no use to TSA. It’s of no value to them. The cost and care of storage and handling was exceeding the commercial value of it to them,” Pepperman says. “Some (states) put them up on eBay. Some have their own websites. Others have auctions.”
Some states, he says, donate useful items to schools, fire departments and non-profit groups.
Some items have questionable resale value. Items that crossed Pepperman’s path while he worked in the Pennsylvania surplus agency until two years ago included machetes, meat slicers and a box of rocks.
“We collected more fuzzy handcuffs than you would ever see in your life boxes and boxes of fuzzy handcuffs,” he says.
Despite a policy of not carrying sharp objects on planes that dates to just after 9/11 and one that limits liquids and gels that dates to 2006, the TSA continues to collect objects that clearly have malevolent possibilities.
This month, a spear gun showed up at Newark, joining assorted hatchets, chains, inert grenades, metal throwing stars and bullet-holding bandoliers.
Al Della Fave, spokesman for the Port Authority Police Department for New York and New Jersey, admired a recent find of decorative daggers from the Middle East in an ornate wooden box that a traveler carried under his arm. “People think they’re good to go and they’re not,” he says.cheaprolexwatchessale
